NetCloak 2.5 User's Guide

Upgrading NetCloak

On your original NetCloak disk, a Key file is included that makes it easy to upgrade to future versions. To upgrade NetCloak, download the current demo version from the Maxum Web site ("www.maxum.com") and drag your NetCloak Key file onto the application icon. The NetCloak demo version will launch, read the key, validate itself, and notify you that validation has been completed.

Once validated, the NetCloak CGI can validate the plug-in using the "Validate Plug-In" command in the "File" menu. When you choose this menu item, you will be asked to locate the NetCloak plug-in to be validated using the standard file dialog. Note that you will have to quit your Web server application before validating.

In addition to validating by dragging your key file, NetCloak will also recognize the key if it resides in the NetCloak folder. Simply placing the key file in the same folder as the NetCloak CGI application (or in the Web server root folder for the plug-in) will cause NetCloak to run indefinitely.

Please note that to permanently validate NetCloak, you must drag the key onto the application. If you validate by simply leaving the key file in the NetCloak or Web server root folder, then removing the key or moving NetCloak to another machine will cause NetCloak to revert to its demonstration state. Only by dragging the key onto the application (or using the "Validate Plug-In" option for the plug-in) will NetCloak be permanently enabled.
